guard is getting about $20 million from Nike. The Air Jordan basketball shoe was introduced by Nike in 1985, and provided more than $100 million in sales its first year on the shelves. . . . Milwaukee Bucks forward Fred Roberts has been placed on the injured list after underdoing surgery on his fractured cheekbone and will be out two or three weeks. Roberts suffered the injury Thursday against the Bulls w Nike Free Powerlines EXT hen he was hit by a Bill Cartwright elbow. The Bucks also lost guard Jay Humphries when he suffered a deep thigh bruise. Humphries is listed as very doubtful for Sundays rematch with the Bulls in Milwaukee. A Bucks spokesman said it was too early to tell how long Humphries might be out. Milwaukee coach Del Harris said the team would offer guard Tony Brown a second 10 day contract.

Rusty Wallace took the lead with four laps to go and went on to become the first driver in the history of the International Race of Champion series to win after starting last. Wallace beat fellow NASCAR star Terry Labonte by less than a car length in the 40 lap, 100 mile race in Daytona Beach. Wallace averaged 183.955 miles an hour.

Switzerlands Karl Alpiger won the World Cup downhill in Aspen, Colo., the first event after the World Championships. Alpigers time was 1 minutes 44.02 seconds, one tenth of a second ahead of Marc Girardelli, who clinched the seasons downhill title. With one downhill left, Girardelli has a 34 point lead over Helmut Hoeflehner. Girardelli also increased his lead over Pirmin Zurbriggen in the overall standings. Girardelli has 326 points to Zurbriggens 232.

Nevada boxing officials say they will fine and probably suspend welterweight Lloyd Honeyghan after the British fighter tested positive for a painkilling drug after his Feb. 4 fight against Marlon Starling. Were going to be tough with this one, said Dr. Elias Ghanem, chairman of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Honeyghan lost his World Boxing Council title to Starling in an eighth round knockout.

Dr. Jamie Astaphans lawyer says his client has been misquoted in reports that say sprinter Ben Johnson took steroids four months before the Seoul Olympics. Astaphan, who has treated Johnson, was quoted by the Toronto Star as saying Johnson had been depressed and took the banned steroid stanozolol. Johnson was stripped of a gold medal in the 100 meters at the Olympics after he tested positive for the performance enhancing drug. But lawyer David Sookram said the story is wrong. The Toronto Star said it stands by its story.

Purdue basketball coach Gene Keady denies he is seeking the Arizona State job but hasnt ruled out the possibility of leaving the Boilermakers after this season. Keady said he is not pursuing anything. Theres nothing to it. I dont know who starts this stuff. According to Keady, Arizona State officials havent contacted him about the job and anyone interested in him would have to talk to Purdue Athletic Director George King. Keady also said that theres a $200,000 buyout in my contract so before anybody gets interested in me, they better come up with some big bucks. . . . The Southwest Conference has issued a public reprimand to Texas Christian coach Moe Iba in connection with comments he made after a loss to Arkansas. Ibas remarks violated a conference regulation that prohibits making publicly unduly critical remarks of game officials, the SWC statement said. . . . Georgia Techs Tom Hammonds will miss Saturdays game against North Carolina State because of a knee injury he suffered in Tuesdays victory over Maryland. . . . Kentucky has filed an affidavit asking that its written response to 18 NCAA allegations against its basketball program not be released to the media in order to protect the privacy of sources. . . . Texas San Antonio player Keith Horne has been charged with attempted murder after his arrest for allegedly beating and trying to strangle a female hotel employee in Deland, Fla., police said. Horne, 19, was taken into custody in the bathroom of a hotel where the team was staying. He was being held without bond. Texas San Antonio beat Stetson in 95 88 in double overtime Thursday.
